Former KROQ Music Director and MTV VJ Lewis Largent has passed away. Over the weekend, Largent’s family confirmed the 58-year-old died on February 20 after a long illness.

Largent was a teenager when he started his career at KROQ after impressing the station’s GM with his music knowledge. That internship became a full-time job, which led him to become Music Director of the LA powerhouse in 1989.

Years later, Largent left to become the VP of Music Programming at MTV. He was the third host of 120 Minutes, interviewing 90s alt-rock artists like Bjork, Trent Reznor, and Radiohead. Largent left MTV to be SVP of A&R at Island Def Jam Records.

In a tweet, Largent’s 120 Minutes successor Matt Pinfield said, “I am completely gutted. I loved Lewis very much. I am at a loss for words.”

Largent is survived by his wife, Atlantic Music Group chairman/CEO Julie Greenwald, and their two children.
