Radio Headlines For Friday 06-12-20
 
500 more stations have shown interest in joining an Independent Broadcasters Association according to Adams Media Group CEO Ron Stone who's organizing the effort. That brings the total number of interested stations to 1,850 after only two weeks. [read more]
 
 
The NAB says The FCC has an obligation to collect $339 million in regulatory fees in 2020, the same amount as 2019. Radio's contribution to that total is approximately $30 million. However, The Commission is proposing an increase on broadcasters and that has the NAB up-in-arms.  [read more]
 
On Thursday Westwood One Executives Suzanne Grimes and Pierre Bouvard made a presentation called The State of Consumers, Audio and Media. It was an in-depth look at consumers behavior now that states are opening up, and, in the midst of protests over the murder of George Floyd. [read more]

57 year old Tyra Womack was fatally shot outside her home Wednesday night. She worked for Gospel station WEAA-FM. Baltimore Police say it was a senseless, tragic murder, and may have resulted from a dispute with a neighbor. They are still searching for the shooter. [read more]
 
The NAB has announced results of its Executive Committee Board of Directors elections. Salem Media President David Santrella (pictured) was re-elected Radio Board chair. Townsquare CEO Bill Wilson was voted in as Radio Board first vice chair and Zimmer Radio Owner John Zimmer was elected second vice chair. Phil Zachary is the new VP/MM for the Saga, Portland Radio Group. The quick turn around follows on the heels of Bob Adams being dismissed on Monday. [read more]
 
 
iHeartMedia Providence Rocker 94 HJY will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of “The Paul and Al Morning Show” on July 15. During the celebration a compilation of show highlights throughout the three decades will air.  [read more]
 
The news broke this week that the host of The Holstein & Company Morning Show on WIXY-FM in Champaign, Illinois was let go. Steve Holstein was a morning fixture for 24 years at the station. Now with some extra time on his hands he talked with Radio Ink. [read more]
 
Ele Ellis is the new content manager of WUMW 89.7 FM – Milwaukee’s NPR. Ellis has spent nearly two decades working in public radio. Prior to joining WUWM, Ellis was PD for WKSU in Kent, Ohio. [read more]
